  • One thing we recommend is to decrease the salaries of Assembly members to make the positions less desirable. Here are some more recommendations:
    • 1 – An Act of Assembly should be passed for a new Assembly be elected every 2 years to make it more compliant with the King’s Commends for retrenching salaries. This may put more pressure for members of the Assembly to be more responsive to those who elect them
    • 2 – We recommend not paying Assembly members any longer than when they are actually doing their jobs as Assembly members. That is, during vacations, they ought not be paid
    • 3 – There should be no expense accounts for Assembly members, especially for liquor
    • 4 – Every chairman of the various committees should send their payrolls to the colony clerks to be reviewed. There have been far too many people drawing massive paychecks for next to no work done
    • 5 – The people of the Counties serving as Burgesses probably will complain a whole lot less if we reduce salaries on the whole. But also we should reduce taxes & duties because the salaries are rising just to pay the increase in taxes, especially for liquor
      • There are other problems the people have but they are mostly private matters. We believe that solving these problems above might relieve other problems
