  • The Greeks got back to their ships. Achilles spoke:
    • Achilles – Let’s pay our respects to Patroclus and then eat
  • He spoke to the body – I’ll do what I promised. I’ll feed Hector to the dogs and kill loads more Trojans
  • He threw Hector’s body in front of Patroclus’s
    • They had a big feast but Achilles was called to eat with Agamemnon and co. He wouldn’t eat or even bathe until he’s buried Patroclus
  • They ate and the rest went to bed. He took Patroclus’s body to the shore and fell asleep. There the ghost of Patroclus said to him:
    • Patroclus – Please bury me. I need to go to Hades. My soul is lost since my death. This is the last we’ll see each other. But I know you’ll die soon. Please put both your ashes together with mine.
  • Achilles reached for him but he was gone
  • Later, the Greeks build a funeral pyre. Achilles cut a lock of his hair and put it in Patroclus’s hand since he wouldn’t be going home again.
  • He asked Agamemnon for a private mourning among Patroclus’s friends. They sacrificed animals and put the body on the fire.
  • Meanwhile Venus and Apollo are preserving Hector’s body from flies and dogs
  • The funeral pyre only started with help from the wind gods
  • The fire was put out with win. The bones and ashes were collected and dealt with properly. The workers stuck around
  • Achilles offered prizes for funeral games
  • Riding –
    • 1 – Diomed
    • 2 – Antilochus
    • 3 – Menelaus
    • 4 – Meriones
    • 5 – Eumelos
      • These results were heavily disputed but all were satisfied with their prizes. Nestor gets a prize despite not participating. He gives a long-winded speech
  • Boxing – Epeus beats the shit out of Euryalus
  • Wrestling – Big Ajax and Ulysses wrestle for 3 rounds. It ends in a tie
  • Foot Race –
    • 1 – Ulysses
    • 2- Small Ajax
    • 3 – Antilochus
      • Antilochus gets a bonus for kissing Achilles’s ass
  • Spear Duel – Diomed and Ajax fight to a tie. It ends in a draw but Diomed gets a prize
  • Archery – Meriones beats Teucer mostly because Teucer who didn’t pray right
  • Spear Throwing – Agamemnon wins but gives the prize to his herald, Tathybius
