  • Menelaus was upset about Patroclus’s death. Euphorbus told him to back off because is his trophy.
  • Menelaus threatened him because of his pride.
  • Euphorbus – Yea, well you killed my brother and I’ll avenge his widow
    • He threw a spear at Menelaus’s shield
  • Menelaus threw a spear and caught him in the throat. He stripped Euphorbus’s armor. Apollo informed Hector of this fact
  • Hector was determined to get the body and armor of Patroclus into the city
  • Ajax and Menelaus are also determined to get them back. They were able to get the body and guard it with their lives while crying
  • Glaucus reamed Hector for backing down
    • Glaucus – You’re all talk. Troy is doomed if you protect it the way you ran away from Ajax
    • Hector – I’m not afraid of him. The gods are fickle and I’ve got to time my moves. Stick around and see if I’m a coward.
      • To his men – This ought to cheer you all up. I’ve killed Patroclus and I’ve got his armor
      • He puts it on
  • Jove watched and said to himself
    • Jove – Stupid man. You might be strong but Achilles will avenge his friend’s death.
  • He has the armor on the spirit of Mars
    • Hector – Let’s fight for Troy. Anyone who can give me Patroclus’s body will be rewarded dearly.
  • Ajax sees this and says to Menelaus
    • Ajax – We don’t have a chance. I’m more afraid for us than the body. We need reinforcements
  • The Greeks show up. There’s a scrum over the body. The Greeks make a wall of shields around the body to protect it. The Trojans grab it but can’t bring it into the city.
  • Aeneas is inspired by a disguised Apollo to push the Greeks back. He talks to Hector
    • Aeneas – Jove’s on our side. We should attack the Greeks on their way back to the ships.
  • The Trojans were able to kill Greeks protecting the body. No progress either way
  • Jove interferes by causing the Greek horses to buck around spooked.
  • Minerva encouraged the Greeks to be braver. Menelaus promised and prayed to her. She gave him a boost to fight better
  • Apollo pushed Hector to avenge a friend’s death
  • Ajax and Menelaus notice that Jove is one fickle god. He’s inspired Hector to fight again. Someone needs to inform Achilles of what’s happened. This could turn the battle around.
  • The news got to Nestor and he sent his son, Antilochus to tell Achilles. The Trojans have his armor and are going after the body.
  • The Greeks tried their best to bring the body back.
